Wonderful memories

John was a constant in my life for around 30 years, first through the Outsiders Walking Club, then LV and Clog. I still can’t quite believe he’s no longer with us, but hopefully he’s looking down and smiling at us lightweights doing the things he’d never do: grumbling about the weather/mud, panicking about being lost, puffing and panting up hills and getting squiffy after only a couple of drinks…
Special thanks to him for organising a memorable 2010 Clog weekend in the Peak District, which resulted in me writing a historical novel set in the area, and last year’s brilliant break at Hebden Bridge.

I’ve read through everyone’s heartfelt tributes and can’t add much more, so I’d like to echo comments by the two Pauls, which best reflect my feelings, too: ‘Above all I remember John as one of the most considerate, modest and friendliest guys you could meet’; and: ‘A bit of a wicked sense of humour, indefatigable in bad weather and always easy company.’

We’ll never forget you, dear John. Thank you for all the wonderful memories. Love Sally
